I've been keeping freshwater fish for 25 years and decided to try saltwater. I've been reading post in this forum for awhile to get some info.
I have a 30 gal tank. Going to start with fish only and move to corals after some time. I want to add live rock to help cycle the tank. Do I need live sand to or would the live rock be enough. thanks for you opinions.

Welcome to 3reef! as far as live rock, you should definitely get a good amount. You could also get some dry rock and then seed it with some live rock. I don't really think you need live sand, because the little critters from the live rock will grow and populate in the sand as well. It's your decision, though. It would save you money if you get dry sand.

What do you mean by food grade? And if you can, I would recommend getting a DI unit as well as the RO.

In that case, any unused storage container should be fine, as long as it doesn't leach any chemicals into the water.
