I bought my first 120 gallon tank with everything that I need. It's used but in excellent condition. I need help with the sump setup. My sump is a 30 gallon acrylic tank with 3 chamber. the catch is that there is a 4 chamber in the back that is the lenght of the sump. that 4 chamber as a black film that divide it from the 3 other chamber. Help...

Any chance you can post a picture of it?

It sounds like a refugium run. Something to put sand and a macro algae in.

Hrmm we need a picture of this or the manufacturers name and model # (assuming its not custom)

The narrow chambers sound like the input (water coming in from the display tank) and output chamber (where the return pump would go to pump water back to the display tank).

The larger chamber across the back sounds like a refugium. The middle section that is larger than the other two side sections is more than likely the 'skimmer' section.

Hello and welcome to 3reef......I have not seen one made up like that, it dose look like a refugium run or some type of built in ato maybe, a few more pictures from different angels might help. i am bumping this back to the top for more input.

Looks like a refugium in the back to me. Your drains would flow into the PVC on the right, and the water would trickle into the refugium in the back and it look slike it as a lower drain into the mid section – I don’t care for the design and I might be wrong to boot.

Your skimmer would drop into the middle section and your return pump on the left. I am confused as to the water height and if it would even flow into the refugium. This is an odd set up. Can you please take a picture from above and of any other in/out-lets.

Edit - just took another look, what I said above is accurate in my opinion. Let us see the above show, refugium shot and the refugium to mid section drain and we should be able to help you further.
