hello, another newbie to the site

Hello i'm new here just joined up. I'm not new to marine tanks I previously had a 10 gallon nano tank set up as my first saltwater tank ever with a clownfish and yellow watchman. Recently while cruising craigslist I found a woman giving away 20 lbs of free live rock and 30 lbs of sand(which was live at one point but she never used it and had it bagged for 2 years). Anyways I had a spare 40 gallon tank so said what the hey and drove out and picked it up. Ofcourse I'm not the smartest when it comes to setting the tanks up (never did the whole cycling process) but I was determined to cycle this tank and figured the die off from the rocks would be enough. So set the tank up waited a month and threw in 4 little hermit crabs 2 astrea snails and 2 nassereus(sp?) snails. Only lost one of the hermit crabs and I think he was killed by another crab. Everybody else seems ok(except the astrea snails tend to hang out towards the top of the tank a lot).

Thanks the tank itself isn't all too great bought it off craigslist for $20 it used to be a turtle tank but it suits my purpose. I actually bought it and had no plans for it, just like having spare tanks laying around. So when I saw the rock i checked my tank stash and decided on the 40. I am planning on getting more live rock too come income tax time probably another 20-30 lbs.
