Hello guys and gals, im new to posting/registering but ive been reading for a while now, the reason for registering is to ask help to make a 10gal sump for my 75gal, i want to fit a protein skimmer in there ( i currently have a seaclone 100) but i have no idea no how to fit it there.

for now i have a 10gal with one baffle for the side where the water comes from the tank and thats it...

basically something like this but i dont knoe where to put the skimmer... i could remove the sand and add the skimmer in the middle??

    thanks in advance

Based on your drawing here the only spot to put the skimmer would be in the middle, but the rock would have to come out.

I've a very similar design on my 10 gal sump. But my DT is only 30 gallons, so I can run my <small, worthless> skimmer as a hang-on on the incoming side of the sump. Putting the skimmer in the middle defeats the purpose of the double baffles, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do....

thanx for the fast reply guys, i havent made the sump yet so i can change the plans a bit... how about putting the skimmer on the left sife of the baffles and move the baffles more to the right?

    like this?

i probable wont have enough space... the tank is only 20inches long... dont remember whats the footprint of the seaclone 100 + its pump lol this is complicated

That should work. My problem is that everything is so tight under my cabinet and in the sump that it is a pain to take anything out and clean...it can be a huge inconvenience.

    the second design looks good.
make the skimmer section bigger than you need though, your going to want to replace that seaclone after a while so that will give you extra room for a better skimmer.

ok so i was bored a bit and started playing with google sketchup here is what i came up with

the return pump will be on the left, it fits a 1200 magdrive pump, as for the make shift seaclone 100 model... dunno but i think that will splash a lot.. since there is no way i can get the seaclone output to just drop into the sump with a tube or sumthing, the proteinskimmer is on the first chamber... so any bubbles gets trap by the baffle that chamber is 5inch wide and 10inches long deep and 10inches high.

what do you guys think? will it work?? the "refugium" area will be 8 and 3/4 of an inch wide and 10x10 i calculated it will hold arround 3.75 gallons... not much but will it do?

    Edit**
return pump area is 3.5inches wide by 10x10
