Not a problem! I appreciate any kind of professional advice/suggestions here. In my opinion, I think we're all "playing god" by trying to maintain our own little ecosystems. I think that's why it's so challenging, because that's a tough job X)

But yes, I have taken your advice. I take a lot of this info. to my father. I told him about our cheap JEBO brand, and I let him know that better alternatives have been provided here whenever he's ready to upgrade. Apparently, he's not quite ready to spend large amounts of money for the tank right now.

As for the lighting, I have started today with the extended exposure. We had algae growing on the glass and whatnot before, when we used to keep the lights on more often. Maybe since we have a UV Sterilizer now (and p/skmmr) that algae buildup won't happen as much?? ::shrug:: I don't know.

I'm guessing you guys are saying that 8hrs is the minimum? How long is TOO much though?

Cuttingrass, about your suggestion: are you sure it's 100% safe to use that?

(To Gotosleep): Well, I'd love to work miracles and defy a few rules of compatibility. (That vid was amazing, btw!) But I just don't feel confident in my knowlege right now that I have what it takes to do such a thing.

Apparently there's an "odd number" rule with potentially conflicting Tangs and I'm guessing Angelfishes too. I don't get that rule one bit. What does having an odd number have to do with it?! o_o wouldn't quantity matter more than an even or odd number?

What I would really like to know now, is since I can't have all the angelfishes I want in my tank, what's the acceptable maximum I can settle for? Out of all the angels I mentioned, which ones could I get? I mean, do I honestly have to settle for ONE ANGEL for a huge 110gal tank? As you know, I have a Juv Gray Angel, (which was my dad's pick), so I would definitely be furious if I have to be stuck with that angel alone, when I could have had something WAY better like a Flame Angel or Juv. Emporer-- even an Elibi, at LEAST. So plz, share any knowlege you guys might have concerning this so that I can better understand. What's the most amount of angels I could really put in my tank, and which ones out of my wanted list could I pick accordingly?

(To 1st Time) I would def. read up on a good tank book if I got my hands on one. But once again, where money is concerned, I am in no position to purchase things like that because I am unemployed. Dad might, but I think we have more important things to invest in at the moment.

(To {Nano} & Cuttingrass) LoL why would you want my dad to come do that? It's not that hard, y'know! XD I don't get it!

 

I have only consider using an UV sterilizer when I had my fowlr tank. and really couldn't not afford it at the time, they are used for fish parasites, but they also kill every thing beneficial
in the water column. on my first reply to your thread I did mention your tank looks very clean, remember? reason I said it was because we are trying to mimic their natural habitat, now don't get me wrong! there is nothing bad about being clean, is just that as you are killing parasites with the UV you are also killing beneficial bacteria that helps break down the fishies waste. There for more nitrites and ammonia are present, which are harmful to the living creatures you have. The amount of fish on a 110g tank is only determine by the ability to break down their toxic waste example, uneaten food, fish crud and their consumption of oxygen from the water. Need to be able to replace the use oxygen, how? by colonizing aerobic bacteria that is being killed with the UV sterilizer

 

is a digital thermometer safe to use?....um yeah...lots of people use them...but I couldn't think of the name, so here's the link of the kind I've used for every tank I've ever had, since they've been making them. They work great!

What it takes to do a tank like that (David Saxby's) is a whole lot of $$$$$. Well, probably some knowledge too.

Wow, I didn't know that about the UV/s. Well, I was highly recommended by my pet store owner to obtain one of these, especially since I intend to keep angels, tangs, and b/flys. From what I was told, it seemed almost an essential asset.

Yes, I have noticed in my water tests that my nitrate levels are up. By now, they should be around 30-40, but idk how serious that level is. It WAS 80 at one point, so I'm glad to see progress, but what would you suggest, if the UV sterilizer is doing other things that don't help out as much?

(To Cuttingras) My apologies for spelling your name incorrectly ^_^ That therm. that you linked me too looked very familiar =D I think my dad used something like that back when I was 7 on our freshie tank ^_^ I still don't know what to decide, because I'm getting different suggestions about digital and non-digital.

Right now, my dad and I are definitely trying to obtain a backup generator outlet for my aquarium, since south Florida is expecting hurricane Ike, (which is a category 3 at the moment)

I have no MAJOR updates for my tank at the moment. I saw two types of fishes online that I liked, and wouldn't mind having, since I have to give up on my expectations of containing my fav. angelfish in my aquarium.

-The twin spot coris wrasse (white wrasse, black polka dots, and two orange spots) looks amazing =D not as great-looking when it evolves though.

-And the Springeri Dottyback (black, with blue lines on the head. It's relatively small, and it looks like a neon velvet damsel in dottyback form XD)

They're nice. And they don't seem to have compatibility issues. I wouldn't mind getting them ^_^

Hey, every1! I'm back again with an update. I recently added a new fish to my tank, and some of you might have caught a glimpse of my thread in the "asap" forum, because my Tomini Tang decided to pick on him.

So far, my water is at a "B+" says my pet store owner, and my new Pearlscale Butterfly is coming along quite nicely, especially considering it has to deal with my Tang chasing it from time to time.

He eats well, which I learned recently is a portrayal of a fish's health. Three diff. pet store owners told me that my Tang's behavior will wear off in a couple of days. I have noticed a decline in the frequency of the Tang's chasing, and the b/fly and Tang can swim around each other a little closer now, without my Tang chasing it away. It's progress, and it's good =) Thank you to the ones who helped me out on the "asap" forum. I learned a lot.

I will take some photos of my b/fly and show you all ^_^ expect them sometime later!
