hello everyone i'm crobatt and im new :p anyways, I've had multiple freshwater tanks, and i want to plunge into the world of saltwater. I have a 55 gallon i'm going to use, I've read the smaller tanks are harder, anyways. I need to know what i need. Literally all i have at the moment is the tank. I'm planning to do a fish only tank. What do you guys think? PLEASE HELP ME Thanks:D!

Welcome and you're at the right place. You will learn so much from this site as I have. Just have patience, things will get trying at times, but saltwater is well worth the effort. Good luck!!

Welcome! I've only recently started the journey, yeah lots of reading but you'll see it more once you start doing it all....

    What didn't you understand?

A sump is just another area to:
    1) increase the water volume (always good...solution to pollution is dilution;))
    2) allows for extra filtration (via filters, live rock, skimmer, macroalgae) plus other stuff (topoff, dosing pumps, etc)
    3) a place for the tiny critters like copepods and amphipods to breed and eventually get pumped back to the main display
    4) place to put the equipment out of the way so you don't have all the pumps and heaters hanging off the display tank.
    5) keep a critter or two you might not allow in the display tank

Hi and welcome! I suggest to read, read, read in the forums here. Great info is everywhere. And patience is a must, as already stated. The benefit to your setup and continued success in reef keeping hinges on a little patience. Happy reefing!
