Man, you guys are AWESOME! Good tips for cooling the tank.

Lets get back to the hermit crab-he didn't have a shell when he came home. He was apparently attached to a piece of LR I bought. I called the LFS and they said not to worry he would grow a new one-aarrrhhhhh!

And I don't KNOW for sure if sand makes a tank hotter but I swear I wasn't having this problem til the sand came in. It's such a small tank (yea, I already wish I'd bought bigger but I gotta make this work 'cause hubby will kill me if I suggest bigger so soon) I think it heats up quickly. I triple checked the heater-its ok. The tank has two 24 watt flouresents and 2 blue lights like moon lights maybe? I'm just gonna keep playing with the top since I'm recycling again and have nothing else to do:)

You can have too much live rock???? I've got about 2 pounds in the 2nd chamber and right now the sponge is still in the 1st chamber

he wont grow a new one, or will he? hermits dont grow shells, they steal them from other things, like snails.

Awww, and I thought I had a new super dooper type of hermit! In my 6 weeks of this new hobby the biggest thing I've learned is don't take the person at the LFS at his word-most not to smart me thinks;D

I just wish crusty the hermit would find a shell-he's a ugly little bugger all nekkid!

Camilsky brings up a good point. Those pumps the nano's usually come with are woefully weak. Do not provide much flow or surface disturbance at all. --- you may want to look at getting a better pump. :-/

alright, I'll agree the pump is weak. I did purcahse a powerhead to circulate the water more. Does anyone know how to go about replacing the pump in a nano? they seem sorta built in to me

Ok, Ok. the sand wasn't making the tank hotter I just checked the power heas and its not working. So, I'm betting thats the problem with the sudden heat increase.
