im just a rookie but heres what i got. my tank is a 55 gallon AGA with a coralife aqualight compact and a (dont laugh) magnum 220 canister filter:-[. i know , i know i'm changing it out asap but gotta start somewhere oh yah and ihave 45 lbs. of LR (still adding) and 50 lbs. of LS. Livestock consists of 1-6 line wrasse, 1-4 stripe damsel, and 2-yellowtail damsels. you can always use the canister as chemical filtration once you get a skimmer so its all good.

advice is just go slow, and only by corals you really want. sure its awesome brown zoas are growing so fast and you have two dinner plate patches but they would be so much better if they were more colorful(my first reef tank, had more brown then idk something with alot of brown lol).

A few questions. First of all, welcome to 3reef.

1.) What kind of skimmer do you have?
2.) What kind of water flow (powerheads) do you have in your tank?
    3.) Do you have a sump/refugium?

The slow, slow, slow comment is spot on. Never rush this hobby. I like your choice of livestock. You should never see a bristleworm in your tank with the wrasse and yellow tails at work!!! Note that humbug (four stripe) damsels can eat Xenia. So I would avoid that particular coral. Get a Kenya tree instread. They grow like weeds.

    hey thanks for the reply.
i currently dont have a protien skimmer, my powerheads are 2 maxijet 1200s, and idont have the space or knowledge to have a sump/refugium. im thinking of switching canisters to a rena XP3 at the LFS its only $150. but im still trying to afford my light first.
