    Hi guys,

Just getting acquainted with you all. :) I'll have lots of questions later I'm sure. Right now I'm cycling.

    Starting off with a
    20 gallon 24x12x16
VHO lighting with two 75 watt Actinic white VHO lamps
    30 lb. live sand
    20 lb. live rock
    Jebo protein skimmer 180
    heater

Am I on the right track here so far?

Oh forgot to add that my water is from my brother's established 75 gallon aquarium. Not sure if that makes a difference/helps/hurts.

    Welcome to 3reef!
The water will help tremendiously but you might want to turn your skimmer off for a while because there is nothing in the tank to skim. I ran my tank for 5 months before i turned my skimmer on. Also don't run the lights right now. You want bacteria to grow and not algae.

Can I keep my little 15 watt lights on any at all? The ones that came with the tank hood? My tank is in a dark corner and can't really observe anything without light.

    Rock anenome

    Hi all,

Just started my cycling day before yesterday. I turned my lights on this morning and found a snail (guess he was in the sand shipped in from Florida) and four little rock anenome. I saw rock anenome on some of the rock at the little mom and pop fish store here in town where I bought the rock, but "Dave" the fish guy didn't give me any of those rock and when I pointed them out to him he said they weren't the "as dangerous" kind....lol. So what is the verdict, are they good or are they bad? And are there gradations of bad?

    welcome

welcome to 3 reef. there's lots of help available here. I would suggest using the search feature to find specific topics you're interested in. Good luck. I've been to Abilene many times visiting my son who went to ACU

Welcome to 3reef!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have any pics of this "rock anemone"...the reason i ask is it could be a pest anemone called aiptasia (ap-tay-sha).....these reproduce asexually and do it fast, sting everything in the tank, and when u scrape one off a rock one will sometimes grow in the same place as the last...
