My name is Robert and I currently have a 120 Gallon long (5FT) saltwater tank. This is my first saltwater tank and everyone always said to get the biggest you can afford, so I went with the 120.

I started the tank in early June, and this is where I am at now. I have 110 lbs fiji pink sand that was seeded with 5 lbs live sand from my LFS. I have about 90-100 lbs live rock (but am looking to add more). For current, I have two Koralia 4's (one on the left side of tank and one on the right side of the tank) and one Koralia 3 ( in the middle of the tank). For filtration I am running the Eshopps hang on the back protein skimmer since my tank was not drilled for an overflow system (although I am trying to figure out if the glass is tempered or not so I can drill it). I also run a hang on the back filter with activated carbon but am going to get rid of that soon.

I currently have some horrible lights that came with the tank, but just bought the Current Nova Extreme Pro that is the 48 in model with 6 T-5 bulbs and am waiting to get it later this week.

For live stock I have a Blue Hippo Tang that recently recovered from ick and is now thriving in the tank. I have three blue chromis, a diamond goby, a firefish, a sixline cleaner wrasse that is thriving in the tank (one of the oldest fish I have), and then a mated pair of misbar oscellaris clowns. Unfortunately I lost two blue chromis, one firefish to gill flukes, and my favorite but shortest lived, a Blonde Naso Tang that died three days in due to a massive case of ick, to which I was assured was no problem (but now I know much better).

Also in the tank, as far as invertebrates go, I have a purple lobster, two cleaner skunk shrimp that are growing rapidly and molting often, two peppermint shrimp, and a handful of astrea snails, and a handful of hermit crabs.

My salinity is held at 1.025, my ph is at 8.0-8.2, my nitrates and nitrates test at 0-10 ppm, and the temperature is held at 78 degrees. I have yet to test for calcium and such, but am going to soon. Recently, I had an outbreak of red slime, but it is slowing receding because I have cut back on my feeding amount. Other than that, all looks to be going well, but slow.

I feed frozen brine, mysis, and veggie delight to the tank, as well as Flake Frenzy. I soak all of the food in Kent Garlic Extreme, and this is the only supplement I currently use. For the Blue Hippo Tang, a piece of green nori is placed in the tank that has been soaked in garlic everyday.

Once I get my lighting system I am going to try my hand at some soft corals like mushrooms and zoo's.

If you read all of this I thank you and any input would be greatly appreciated since this is my first saltwater tank. Any experiences, good or bad, would be great.

    Robert
