Only remove the pieces of l/r that have the nuisance algae growing on them. Set them in the sun for a few days depending on the weather. This will kill the nuisance algae(and everything else). It's a good effective way of getting rid of it before it's time to tear down an established tank to rid your tank of it. The rock will be returned after the rock has been "cooked" by the sun or other ways of "cooking" it. You may have to try a different method depending on the weather there. The weather is calling for snow tomorrow here in Central Oregon.

Hi and welcome!! Being a bit of a newb myself, I can't give all the advice in the world but I do have one piece. I noticed in your picture you are using one of those plastic swing arm salinity measuring things. Get a refractometer! I just upgraded to one, and it is so much easier and tons more accurate! If your thinking reef tank then salinity level should not be overlooked, and you can get them for about $40, which isn't to bad considering they will last you for as long as you take care of them. Just food for thought... or salt... anyway welcome!!!
