    welcome to 3 reef Luc

you can get the rock straight out of the dealers display tanks if you want it
they will take anything except fish from their dislays for you, not just from the sale tanks

but to set up a Berlin and thus have a reef, you dont need to buy live rock, you can buy base rock and just give it time - it will become live rock once your tank is established

sounds like a great tank you are getting
    looking forward to pictures

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Dont worry, ill get pics up as soon as the tank arrives. :D

Thanks for advice steve. I was actually gonna just get base rock anyway, and get some small pieces of live rock to hopefully seed the rest of the rock. Good to know i can ask the dealers to get the rock out of their display tank. (most of them would sell thir own mother for a couple of hundred RMB anyway, so im not suprised there. lol)

So did you setup your entire aquarium over here then steve? Got any pics, or links to pics? :D

    Thanks
    Luc

I did set the aquarium up here - I imported 2 things I could not find here - Tropic Marin Calc/mag test kit and a Deltec MCE600 skimmer ( had one on a previous UK set up and wanted one again)

do you speak Mandarin or Cantonese?
if you need any help , let me know, we can meet up at Fangcun no problem
always a pleasure for to be involved in anything aquarium based

pics - I have some attached under my profile, click on camera - from when I recently swapped my tank out , Ill add more now Matt has added a bulk image loader

base rock is best bet, you know what your getting with that, live rock can throw up a few unexpected and unwanted surprises

Sorry for the late reply Steve. i had to go to HongKong for a few days unexpectedly. Great city though. You go much?
Unfortunately i dont speak very good manderin or cantonese. My girlfriend and her familyand friendsetc, all speak cantonese, so i pick up bits and pieces from them. But im actually taking lessons in mandarin. How about yourself?
As for going to fancun market. I dont think ill have enough time for about a month or so. *cry* I really need to focus on getting my house decorated and in a liveable condition. That way. The sooner i get our place up and running. The sooner i can start setting up the tank! But saying that....if i do find myself with a bit of spare time Of course ill let you know ;) lol

p.s. I checked out your tank and it looks good! :D Where did you get your seaweed stuff from? I knowthey love that stuff in tanks here. Especially somestrange red ones i see all the time.
p.p.s. I also saw the pics of you fishing......Was that also in china? I love fishing...but cant seem to find much places to go around here. Except for a restaurant i went to where you had to catch your own fish and they bbq them for you while you watch. Scary thing is though. They couldnt decribe what fish it was that was that you can catch. So needless to say I nearly pooped myself when i reeled in a 3lb piranah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    No worries Luc

Yes I get to HK 3 or 4 times per year but its a but hectic to spend to much time there
if you have family and friends that speak Cantonese , you will be fine anyway

I speak Mandarin so I am self sufficient

Fishing - yes all caught in Guangdong - Xi Li Lake is the best place as there are lodges to fish from with sofas, fans and a telephone so you can order drinks, food etc
and there are carp in there to 30lb and cats over 20lb

Piranha - had them to 3LB plus - if you look at the basket thats in my catfish photo you can see a few red bellied ones that where destined for the pot - nicest tasting freshwater fish I have had here

Hope to see you around when you are not so busy , maybe a trip to Fangcun and a 2 or 8 beers

    Steve
