    Hi. Kevin here. I have been visiting this site a lot since I got a tank.
    Mid December I started a 20 gallon tank. For about 6 weeks just live rock then added a few hermit crabs. A snail appeared out of now where. First week of Feb. I added 2 clown fish.
    Hang on the back aqua clear 30 filter
    Korilia 2 power head
    Every thing seems to be going ok but for brown I guess algae all over the live rock, substrate and now glass. Not very attractive. Early on the brown was there, then it seemed to go away and now it is back with a vengance. I have not been able to idnetify the brown stuff. I just downloaded pictures and will post them a soon as I can figure out how.

    It sounds like it could be several things including cynobacteria, diatoms or slim algae. What type of water are you using? How often and how much do you feed?

    Welcome! I am pretty new myself and started a 20 gallon long reef. My 1 turbo and 3 cerith snails keep everything under control... so far! I would say definitely add more snails. Goodluck!

    Sorry, I've been really busy lately and haven't been able to respond.
    Water? I have been using my tap water (well) water but today bought 5 gallons RO water to use for changes.
    Also got 2 Turbo snails today, actually I sent my son to get them. These freeking things are huge!!! Probably should have only got 1 for a 20 gallon. Maybe I can take one back or find someone local who can use 1.
    They are all over the brown stuff and glass.
