Woohoo! I have a few friends from Wethersfield and just drove past it on my way home from Montreal!

Currently I only have live rock in the tank with sand. Ideally I would like to make it a reef and fish tank, but am thinking I might have to go fish only- input?

I also tried that Connecticut Fish Stores website earlier, but the map didn't pull up for me :(.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

Why do you have to go fish only?

To answer your question, I'm not sure of what fish stores are down in the Fairfield/Greenwich area. There must be some good ones?
Some stores around here have gone "down-hill" somewhat - I've seen coral and fish tanks overtaken by aptasia, bought corals that have had flatworms, etc, so whatever livestock you buy as always be careful. Be sure to dip and quarantine your fish and coral to keep your main tank healthy. You might try All Pets Club (Branford/Wallingford) if you are willing to drive a little further Northeast into the state.

I probably don't. I'm just clueless as to what I should start out with for a reef tank.

A lot of people start out with a pair of clownfish. The tank-bred ones are the hardiest and most resistant to disease.
As for coral, it all depends on your lighting. I'd first buy the water test kits that you'll need before investing heavily in any coral. After you've learned how to adjust and stabilize your water parameters, have the right lighting, skimmer, circulation pumps, etc, then start out with some corals that you think look nice and are also easy to maintain for beginners.

Thanks. I'm thinking of joining the C.A.R.S group. It's a bit of a travel, but it might be interesting/informative. Does anyone have first hand experience with the group?

It says it offers a 20% discount at House of Fins which is my LFS and also a bit pricey!

Hey! I am from Enfield, CT which is 20 mins north of Hartford, right near Mass. I have tried out a couple of LFS in the area. What does everybody recomend in the hartford-springfield area.

Some people like the Puppy Center (which I think is over-priced, most of the time), and there's Realm of Pets in Southington, which isn't too much more of ride from Enfield. There are others up there, I just don't usually travel too far.
There's a guy on here Roger (Tangster) in Wethesfield Ct who can get you pretty much anything tank related you need - best quality and great prices - he works with Aquatic Art Technologies, so does Craig (ThatGuy).
