Hey everybody, I have been reading your forum for a few months now. I have a nanocube 12 which has been set up for a year and a half. It has made it through a recent move from NY to CT. I recently started a 40 gallon stretch hexagon tank. I am two weeks into the cycle. I have mostly all base rock in there. I wanted to say Hi and thanks for all the great info so far!

I have 2 green-blue chromis in my nanocube. Im not sure if I am gonna keep the nanocube set up since I live in an apartment and space is tight. I dont have any corals in my nanocube but look forward to trying it out in the new tank.

I am using a shrimp to cycle and I was wondering if it is usually normal to have so much diatom and bubble algae through the cycle when using this way to cycle. I had a little bit of diatom and red slime when i cycled the 12 gallon with the damsels. I am running the lights 8 hours a day.

Welcome to 3reef and kill the lights on the tank. You don't need them at all for the cycle.

Thanks. I shut em off. I wasnt really looking to get a bigger tank but the girlfriend found the tank and all the equipment on craigslist and said she wanted to get a bigger tank. It didnt take much begging for me to agree. :)
