    Hi all!

Just wanted to say hello. I've been hanging around this forum for a while (and blame it completely for my new reef obsession LOL);D. I figured that it was time to actually join.

I'm not a complete newbie to the SW arena, but close enough. I had a 2' zebra moray that I loved to death (He rolled over to get his belly rubbed just like a dog, whenever I stuck my hand in the tank.), along with some other fish (yellow tang, square anthias, percula clown, baby snowflake, and for about a day, a parrotfish that killed everything, including my zebra.

I'm about to start up a 55gal SW tank this weekend, which I intend to put corals in later, after it's cycled and ready for them. I'm have a wet/dry filter with a protein skimmer and plan to add either a 10 or 20 gallon DSB refugium with algae and hopefully a thriving population of 'pods.

Quick question on the fuge. I was planning a fuge that sits next to the sump, under the tank, that is fed by a t pipe with a valve from my return pump, and then dumps back into the sump to be returned to the tank. I want to grow pods in my fuge for the corals and fish I plan on getting later, so my question is this. Will my protein skimmer, which sits in my sump, kill all of the 'pods that are drained from the fuge? I heard this from a dude at the LFS and it kinda freaked me out, cuz that would make the fuge idea kinda useless.

Thanks to all 3reefers for their help. I hope to learn a lot from you.:)

Welcome aboard Mandarin11 and fellow Floridain( I think thats how you spell it);D. I m not an expert on fuge's, but if you install the fuge after the sump( as in flow wise) I dont think you should have a problem.

I have my fuge fed from the OF then it gets dumped in the sump and returned to the display tank and I have no problems with pod. I return about 1,200 gph and the skimmer only runs about 850 gph so there is water that gets by it. You should be just fine.

Welcom to 3reef! Wow, Sorry to hear about the Parrot Fish taking out your other tank mates. It must have been a real bummer!

Good for you to jump right back in after such a devastating loss. Looks like you might have had a way overloaded tank & that is what killed your fish, not the parrot. If so, that is a tough lesson and can easily be avoided in future.

    Good luck with new project!
