    Hello All,

Just purchased a 55 gal tank and really looking forward to getting it fired up with fish and coral. Just got done mixing in the salt and expecting a delivery of live rock today. Can't wait to start throwing in more life into the tank. Since most of my research for this new adventure came from you guys, it only made sense to sign up! Hope to put some useful input and contributions to the site.

    Dave

Welcome Dave! Have fun aquascaping :) 55s can be tough due to the 12" width, so take your time to get something you look. Plan ahead for the livestock and corals if you plan to keep them.

thank you....I think I have it a little easier with this tank...It's a 18 width and 30 length so more room to play with. Picking the right livestock is another issue :-(. Wish I can just throw everything in.

I have never heard of a 30"L, 18"W (must be 24" T) 55 gallon tank. Is it custom?

No clue to tell you the truth. I got it used and did find it odd of a footprint. I tried searching around for a replacement for that footprint and all I can find is a 37 gallon. And yes it's 25" tall. I could also be mistaken and it's a 50 gal. It was advertised as a 40 gal, but I measured it out and figured out the volume to be 57 gal. This was using measurements from the outside of the tank and not subtracting the thickness of the glass.

Very interesting. Well in that case you certainly have depth and height on your side as far as aquascaping goes. Make sure to post up some pics once its filled :)
