New to 3reef and wanted to say hello. Long time saltwater tank owner (75) new first time reef tank owner (110). I have lots of questions and little knowledge but looking forward to learning.

New reef tank has about 150lbs of Florida Gulf Live Rock, Metal Halide lights, refugium is being set-up now and two family members who moved from the old tank into the new habitat. A large Sailfin Tang 4 1/2 inch and a large Tomato Clown, about 3 1/2 inch.

I need recommendations on refugium plants, mud vs. sand and a good protein skimmer.

Please send me whatever advice you can...

    Regards RockinReef

Glad to see you found way here...

Hard to go wrong with a AquaC skimmer...

Just use sand and no fuge...so can't help you much there...

Others here can (and will!) - give them time.

    ;D

welcome to 3reef! I would say mangroves, if you have the room to grow them. They also like to have their leaves and branches sprayed with fresh water a few times a day. Something I also learned about them on my visit to the Atl Aquarium was, one leaf will always be yellow. That is the leaf that is collecting the salt so the rest of the plant gets fresh water....crazy huh?

I along with Omard and a few others here like the AquaC. I just hooked up my Remora from my 55 to the 135 and it's skimming like mad!

Good luck with you tank and we look forward to pics! :)
