Hello from So Cal

I just wanted to send out a hello. I have been addicted to this hobby for a few years, 5 to be exact. I started out with a little 12G JBJ Nano Cube and a standard 20G tank. I started with a baby CA round spotted stingray (about 2" in diameter), a baby lionfish and baby porcupine. I was told that I wuold be ok having them in there for about a year, but would need a large tank within a year. The day I bought the little guys, I also purchased a wide 150G tank that would serve as their home. I got that tank up and running within 5 months and moved them over one by one with a 2 week time between each move. The 20G tank being empty was restocked with 3 of the surviving damsels from the 150G cycle. I added a Maroon striped Clown and anemone to fill the 20G, which all are still going strong to this day. I also bought a 75G acrylic tank when I wanted a red anglerfish. In 2005, I had a waterline break in my kitch that flooded my entire house. When the contractors were restoring my house, they neglected to cover my tanks which led to paint overspray entering my tanks. Even with emergency tank service from my LFS, I lost my stingray (which grew to 6"), my lionfish (that grew to 8"), my puffer (also 8"), my angler and anemone. Luckily the anemone was the only stock I lost in the 20G tank. The contaminants wiped out everything that I placed in the tank, even after chemi-sorb packs, even a year after the fact. I had a serious black algae problem in that tank. After 3 years of frustration, I decided to start my tanks up again. In the beginning of this year, I completely cleaned out the 150G tank, water columns and sump. I haven't had any of the black algae return, maybe due to the newly added UV sterilizer. I am about 2 weeks away from my target of putting the first fish back in that tank, I'm excited! Anyhow, thanks for reading.
