Hello From South Florida

Hey All.

I have a 55gal 48x12x21" tank. I've had FOWLR in this very tank for 20 years. It's time to go reef!

I've replaced my wet/dry with a larger one, purchased a larger skimmer and phos reactor, and I've kind of started from scratch.

I've scraped years of hair algae of every surface, used a stiff brush on the live rock in a bucket of water and cleaned off as much algae as could be seen. I've also changed 15 gallons of the water with sea water bought from a LFS. Within a few months I'll purchase a good quality RO/DI unit.

I've replaced the CC bottom with about 4" of sugar fine carbonate based sand. (CC but very fine stuff)

I've changed my single low quality 48" flourescent tube with a 11,000K daylight 40W flourescent. This is for interim use only, got the new bulb in the hopes that hair algae growth will become a thing of the past. Within a month, I plan to buy the 5 bulb Aquitinics TX5 T5 5x54W fixture.

My phos reactor has phosban, and filled the rest of the way with a good quality activated carbon.

Today I bought a beautiful pair of Banggai Cardinals, and my large Tomato Clown and big skunk cleaner shrimp are in a 10gal "Salt Water Hilton" while the large tank acclimates.

I'm on my way.
