    Howdy and welcome to 3reef!
    I live in Meriden, Connecticut!
You have all brought up some relative and beneficial issues and comments.
To add or even interject if I may...
Adding damsels or even a Lion Fish, Clown, Grouper among others that are able to make it through a cycle, is a fine way of creating and maintaining a cycle in my opinion. Reason being that take a look at the many living anuimals that live in tidal biotopes or lagoons where ideal water parameters are not always available, due to stagnant water, reduced current or none at all elevating dissolved organics and nutrients wrecking havoc on pH, alkalinity and oxygen just to name a few. By being able to acclimate to the changes in water quality over time, afffords the living animals maintained through the cycle to better be equiped to handle the less than desireable surcumstantial water factors as they accellerate!

I use a one and only one Yellow tail damsel for my tank cycles. Cruelty to me is people buying Mandarins for tanks that are 3 months old and then wondering why they die after a while. That to me is more cruel then using fish to cycle that can handle the cycle.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will head out and attempt to find a yellow tail damsel this weekend.

Would it be too much on the little guy if I got 20 more lbs of live rock at the same time or should I wait a while?

i dont disagree that using damsels do facilitate cycling but why is it needed? if the fish survives its gills are burnt by the high concentration of ammonia and almost every one complains of their nasty damsels six months laterand how the cant get them out of their tanks if they survive[most dont]. a piece of cocktail shrimp vs a damsel? whatever. keep in mind for every damsel that makes it to the lfs a few die in capture, sorting and shipping thats a fact. guess i'm making friends huh? i cant help it on this one sorry
