    Welcome to 3reef!

IMO good quality live rock and good water flow is all the filtration you'll need for the first couple of months so I would disconnect your canister filter after it has done its initial job of clearing up your water. You can use it later on for running carbon and/or floss every now and then. Canister filters require diligent maintenance as they tend to become "nitrate factories" if neglected.

Read all that you can and ask allot of questions. It really does pay dividends in the end.

Good luck and welcome to the "Dark Side"!
