I'm in the very early stages of starting a FOWLR tank. I will be getting a used 60g soon. I have been reading, viewing youtube, visiting sites like these, and receiving advice locally. The tank is 48" long, 24" high, and 13" in depth. I will be buying a base made to support with space beneath. I'm thinking of just a sump with LR with chaeto. Maybe a small refuge attached inside the DT later. Not really looking at fish inhabitants yet, just building a quiet system with proper flow and water balance. I have a 29g FW tank for about 10 years now, that is thriving. I'm more excited about the mechanics and achieving water quality, than what fish to fill it with. Hopefully many will be at the level I am, and we can go at this together. Thanks

Congrats on the new tank! always exciting!!! i have restarted into aquarium world and am cycling my 55G FOWLR now! im sitting with 50 lbs of sand and 50 lbs of live figi rock cycling for 2 weeks going on 3 now, (although i was lucky to have my LFS get me water from an actual 1200 gallon tank he has set up as a reef tank with a corals anemones and fish the hole 9 yards so tank may not see the normal amonia spike ( as i got the live rock from him also ) I was getting some higher nitrate reading but hopefully after adding this last addition of 20lbs of live rock and the water change things will be going better!
