I am starting a 40 gallon reef tank. I have a cleaner shrimp and a algae blenny in it to cycle along with 15-20 lbs. of live rock and 2 inches of crushed coral. The lights are 24" with 65W dual actinic Current lighting. The filter is a Rena Filstar XP 2. 1) how long do I have to wait to add coral? 2) What types of soft corals can I add with that lighting?

    Thanks for the help,

how old is the tank? blennies and cleaner shrimp arent ususally something that are recommended for cycling a new tank, those lights you can keep about any soft coral or shroom you want but need to be cautious with most other things, some LPS are fine under PC's though

Welcome to 3reef. Hate to be the one to say it but if you are cycling the tank still you will probably loose that shrimp. Slow down and let mother nature do her job, this is not a drag race.

to be safe if the live rock is from a cycled tank(not what you order from companies) id say a month. if it isn't cycled(i.e. you bought it from a store) 2 months. ive learned better safe then sorry in an expensive hobby

welcome and I agree in taking your time. The more patience you have the better the ending will be. And I normally get my LR cured and I still give it a 1-2 month rest time because there will also be things that die off even in overnight shipping.
