    So far as a student, I've managed to buy a refractor and a saltwater test kit and a digital thermometer and a couple of power head to put on either side of the tank to get the circulation correct.

    Coming from freshwater, the cichlids look like they are a lot more forgiving and enduring than marine so I'll be extensively testing as I cycle the tank.

    On Amazon there seem to be an automatic top of system for £35! A bargain as well as some rodi units for £80 again which is excellent for my student budget !

    For my internal filter I've got phosphate remover , what other media do I need to put in there ?


    Might keep a cheap spare heater for emergencies.


    Once I have the basic equipment for the set up , I'll be looking to get some love rock (probably not until late January :( )


    I believe this unit has come with t5 lighting rather than the t8 I thought , not sure what the difference is though!
