Why would you keep the lights on 24 hours? The fish need to rest at night and need to be without light for a certain period of time. ....
Also my question about the details of your tank. equipment and fish-coral stock...

Keep your lights on 10-12 hours a day depending on what your running; Power Compact, Actinics, Metal Halide, T5, etc... You should shut your lights off at night though!

Lights need to be off for like 10-14 hours a day. I know I can't sleep with the lights on, and neither can my fish.
