I have a 75g and am going with the 8x54 Tek. I agree with Iraf. Look at the 6x54 Tek. Great unit.

There are plenty of people who just run with skimmers and the biological filtration. Now, a number to go for is 1lb/gallon for a FO tank and 1.5 to 2lb/gallon for a reef tank. Now I do have a sump with filter socks. But I clean them twice weekly to keep the nitrates from building up. If you keep them, you will have to clean them. A benefit to keeping them is that you can run carbon. There are +'s and -'s. Depends on your needs. And don't mind my posts......I tend to ramble. Sorry.

    Peace.......John.;D

Thanks. I've got about 30 lb LR and about 40 lb regular limestone - it's already changing colors (greys mostly) - at some point I reckon the whole lot will be LR. I'm sure there are myriad variables to impact this question, but as a general idea, how long does it take limestone to become LR (given the ratio above) - the tank is still cycling?

Based on what was said in this thread, I'm thinking once I get the skimmer, I can remove one of the Aqua-Tech 30-60 filters and just run the other one.

IMO, crushed coral looks a lot nicer than sand - just a personal preference on looks. Probably has to do with the beaches I went to as a kid 8)

I plan on getting the Nova Extreme 4x54 in two weeks. I think I will really like this one. Since I'll have moon lights, I've started shifting my current light timer an hour a day so by the time I get the new lights, I can run them on a better schedule. Someone mentioned just running the actinics for a few weeks to give the tank time to adjust to the light. Sounds like a good idea to me... thoughts?

After I get the lights, the next two things on my list are the skimmer and the jets for current. I'd like an opinion on which one I should get first. There'll be a few weeks between them for money reasons.
