I am a newbe and it shows... My roommate and i have had our tank running for 6 weeks now and we loose almost every fish we put in the tank... The tank is the new fluval 155 41 gallon. We have over 40lb of live rock. We started buying fish after week 4 cuz our lfs said the water was great... So far we have lost 3 porkupine puffers 2 flounders, yellow tang, flame angel, stripped puffer... The only things that surivive is a pink spotted gobey and a starfish.

Welcome to 3reef! If I were you, I'd determine(on your own) when you were ready for fish pending your cycle/water parameters. Don't let the fish store sucker you. You came to the right place. Ask some questions and we'll get you on the right track to having a successfull marine tank....

Welcome to 3reef!! as of now i would stop buying things for "the money pit" untill your tank can fully mature on its own, it will take a bit, but patients is key to being successfull in this hobby ;)

Not only that Nano and Mission, but Bassin, have you done ANY research on what you are trying to put into you new tank? Research a fish, then if it's appropriate for your tank, buy it. Not cause the LFS guy tells you it's ok.

Those fish that have died are too big for that tank anyway unless you just want to keep one of them and a few smaller fish. The tang will outgrow it quick and end up dieing.

Hey! Welcome to 3reef! didn't mean to come off hostile...I still love ya Petey and Roomate!;D

Wow fast response, Thanks! The parameters are 0 0 0. I have looked up the fish and have only added one at a time but the most i have had is the gobey dwarf lion, and pork puffer for 8 days, then added the tang and flounder and they all died except the gobey

do you acclimate them? goby's are pretty hardy(for the most part) the rest are best left to more experienced aquarists(is that a word). I'd start out with a few damsels and maybe a clown.

Welcome to 3reef! Sorry to hear about your fish. One good tip I can give you is to think of this as a marathon not a sprint. Slow down and have fun. ;)

try putting them in a five gallon bucket and use a air hose to siphon the water from tank. your going to tie a not in the hose so water drips out the hose at a couple drops per second. do this for a hour.
