So I've decided to go with the 175 gal. setup and I began to think I probably can't set that up for a couple years so... My LFS is having a sale on a 65 gal. The Dimensions are 36x18x24 and I was wondering what would be the largest fish that could live in it and yes it's a reef.

being only 36in long the size of the fish cant be huge. i dont know why you would want to go by the size of the fish, but i would say a good 3-4 in fish would fit in well.

what fish were you thinking about.

Well I was thinking of 3-4 fish and then maybe a mellanarus,red-lined wrasse or yellow wrasse.

any of those small wrasses would be fine. Make sure you have a lid and be careful of which wrasse you get as far as being safe with inverts

Thanks 1.0 so when should I add the clownfish? Also the yellow wrasse should be good with small ornamental shrimp/crabs/lobsters (squat lobsters) right? They're usually model citizens...

I hadn't heard that term before - squat lobsters....I think wrasses do tend to leave most inverts alone....

    Crinoid Squat Lobster (Allogalathea elegans):

The Crinoid Squat Lobster is one of the most interesting nano-inverts to enter the hobby in recent years. They are peaceful and completely reef safe. The Crinoid Squat Lobster is very small, most reaching only up to 1-1/2" or 2" in size.
According to LiveAquaria.com expert hobbyist Felicia McCaulley, "Common Squat Lobsters can sometimes be found as hitchhikers on live rock or corals and make fine pets, but these hitchhikers are normally dull colored. Crinoid Squat Lobsters such as the ones pictured above are becoming more common in the aquarium trade. In the wild, these crustaceans are commensal on Crinoid Feather Sea Stars. They use the sea stars for camouflage and steal their food.
