    fish are a larger bioload than corals, my rule of thumb for mixed tanks (coral and fish) is 1 inch of fish/leged inverts (excluding hermits) per 15 gal of water and 2 lbs of liverock per gal
    and live rock displaces water so it reduces over all volume
    Could you purchase a small tank such as a 10-20 gal to act as a sump to add volume and provide a place for a skimmer?
