Just found this site, I've been around nano-reef and reefcentral for a year or so. I've been keeping freshwater tanks off and on all my life, and finally took the saltwater plunge a little over a year ago with my 10 gallon nano. Just a month ago I started the FOWLR.

I just upgraded the lights from 2 X 20 watt screwins to 2 x 65 watt PC's; consequently I'm now battling a new algae problem, and cruddy foam floating on the water surface. I think it's finally time to get a skimmer.

So, I could use some quick advice (which may be off-topic here): what is a cost-effective skimmer for a 10 gallon nano? Anybody have experience with the Current Fission Nano skimmer? I've mostly seen negative comments, and am leaning towards a modded Skilter (remember, it's only a 10!).

Anyway, glad to be here, and hope to learn more in a new community.

Do you plan on getting a sump? Or are you just looking for hang on skimmers?

Just hangon, or possibly in-tank if they're small enough. I'm trying to keep things as economical as possible at this point, as i have limited funds for the hobby (seven kids).

I know this isn't the best hobby in which to try to be economical!
