Hello to this wonderful Community

Hello to all.
I am a new member and new to salt water tank. As a matter of fact, I am trying to learn as much as posible before I buy my new tank.
Someone told me to start with freshwater, and I did. It has been two years and I am doing great. I have a 55 gallons freshwater with 6 glo-tetras, 3 cardinals tetras, 3 neon tetras, and two adult molies and 20 baby molies that are 2 month old and 3 babies molies that are 2 weeks old, plus my wonderful Stucky the procatomous that clean my tank (such a good helper).

Since I started my tank, I have been dreaming of a salt water one, and have hoped to do well in the fresh water so I could go for the salt. Now, I just can not part from my freshwater, so I decided to just add another tank to my office which is the4 place that I have my old tank, so I can just be on the phone and watch my babies when I am in my office.
I will need all the help that I can get. I have 2 10 gallons tanks that I use for medical reasons and only had to use it once so far (thanks God), so I am thinking of doing one of them salt water, but I am too scared to kill any fish.:-/Should I wait until I find a 55 gallons for the salt water? I kind of want a 75 gallons because I want corals and 2 giga clams (hehehe) imagine me, I want to have babies clams: just like one client of mine. I am totaly in love with that little creature and I almost wanted to move into his house. hehehe.

hello and welcome!!! good luck with everything... lots of good info on here!!!! big jump from fresh to saltwater but you can do it... just take your time and research!

Personally i dont see the purpose to do fresh before salt.
I jumped head first into my tank(figuratively speaking) without any freshwater experience.
Its not that difficult but make sure you have the TIME and PATIENCE for this hobby because it is time and$$$ consuming. Mind you I did read a couple of books before jumping in. I do reccommend the NANO REEF HANDBOOK by chris r. brightwell. Great for a begginer such as myself.

Clams need plenty of light. most reefers would recommend that metal halide lights are a must have especially if you want colors to be vibrant. some are availabe for lower power light but not as colorful. This is the reason im updating to metal halide soon.

I was in your shoes a while back. so i bought a used fish tank (about 55-65 gallon). i ventured to the pet store to buy a light fixture for my hexagon tank. little did i know the lights needed are $300 and that's for the most basic, no moon lights or actinic blue. So i pondered the idea and stumbled upon the Oceanic Biocube 29 gallon. and i was sold. the thing is plug N play. i did make modifications but this was a much cheaper option for me. the whole system cost $300 lights/tank/filter/and pump. Not so high tech but hey its a start.

If this interest you they do make a smaller 8or9gallon or 14gallon for desk tops. 29 gallon might be too big for desk.

By the way a small tank is known for fluctuating water parameters so in this case id say bigger is better GO FOR THE 75 gallon!!

Hi! Start out medium, that way you can still buy a bigger one after you get hooked ;D

10 is pretty small, but can be alot of fun too.

Easier to clean anyway
