I have worked in a fish store for 6 years and enjoy all aspects of the aquarium hobby. I maintain 2 large salt water systems at the store as well as about 300 fresh water tanks.

Lots of gathered wisdom working in such an environment for last six years. I envy you. Please feel free to share with us "lessons learned" whenever.

    Glad to see you here!

Thanks for all the welcomes:) I found 3reef just by doing a google search and going through different links. The main thing I have learned by working in a fish store for 6 years is that owners of fish stores are cheap! Soon I will be going back to school and hopefully will eventually end up working in a public aquarium. It would be nice to maintain a system that has some money going into it for equipment! :)

Sure, all LFS's are in business to make $. Some probably scimp as much as they can to get by...hard to do for the large bioloads in tanks and not a very good business practice.

The LFS I freqent is just the opposite. I cannot understand how he can stay in business with all the cool gear he has to manage his tanks.

Imagine he is in it for the long term and is conscientious about his stock and wants only good healthy specimens to provide his customers.

I feel lucky to have one like this closeby. :)

(so, not all fish store owners are "cheap") ;D
