Hi, just wanted to drop a quick hello to everyone. I am new to the site, and fairly new to the hobby as well. I have been keeping freshwater fish for almost 4 years now. I decided to give saltwater a try, just because I was fascinated with all the different types and colors of fish, corals, inverts, etc...

About a year and a half ago I purchased a 65 gal (not reef ready, big mistake) to keep a FO tank. Well that lasted to the end of the cycle when I started to introduce live rock to the tank, now about 90 lbs of live rock later I wanted to start a reef tank. I removed all the rock from the tank pulled out all the fish I had in there, (gave them a great home in a nice SW tank we keep at where I work, they are all doing great.) I kept one fish, Anthias, cleaner shrimp, and a coral banded shrimp. I attempted to create a nice aquascape, not so sure. I just can seem to get it the way I want. I tried three times. I have added 3 corals, a zoo, yellow polyp and a clove polyp, all are doing great.

I am already planning my next purchase. 120 gal reef ready tank, can't wait.

Enough rambling on. I am really looking froward to using this site and getting all the advise and help I am going to need. The one thing they forgot to tell me about keeping a saltwater tank, is how expensive this hobby is. I really think drugs would have been cheaper, but not as rewarding. LOL

    Thanks

Welcome to 3reef. There are ways around some of the expense if you just look in the right place instead of shopping in fish store all the time.

Welcome!! I feel as though I have found the best deals I can on good quality stuff, and I'm still going broke!!! I knew from buddy's of mine that it wasn't cheap, but you still don't get the full effect of it til you see it first hand! Very rewarding though, and you can't go to jail for it (in response to the drugs)!!!

Welcome aboard anthonyhnj. Yes, it can and is expensive but as mentioned below, its also rewarding. It also doesnt forgive ignorance, so do research and some more research and plan ahead. That will help you to save some $$$$$. Good luck with your journey and Im glad that we're coming along for the ride. Luna
