Its my first post and I already have problems. I am the struggling owner of a 90 gallon reef tank. My inhabitants include the following, 2 green chromis, six line wrasse, 1firefish, 2 engineer gobies, powder brown tang, 2 bali stars, 1 arrow crab, a conch , 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 condi anemone, 1 sexy shrimp, 1 anemone crab, hairy mushrooms, xenia, sunpolyps, star polyps, yellow polyps, and a kenya tree. My powder brown is keeping ick really bad I have dipped him 3 times in the past 3 days. water quality is fine but I cant get it to go away! My mushrooms are slowly dying off one by one. I just started putting iodide in the tank to see if that would help. any suggestions?:-/:confused:

Hello and welcome, you have come to the right site thats for sure. I would like to know a few things how old is the tank? has the tang had ick before? or is he a new addition? you should be careful with the iodine because it is easy to overdose the tank. Also the dipping of the tank could be stressing him out and making matters worse because fish have a harder time dealing with ick when they are stressed.

what are you dipping him in and for how long? have you invested in a cleaner shrimp? shrooms are pretty easy to keep, you are maybe giving them too much light, shrooms tend to grow more from filter feeding than light, maybe move them to a lower spot in your tank

watch the idione if you cant test for it dont add. luna and crabby are right the dipping causes awhole lot of stress, and stress just helps ick to kill its host. know anyone with hospilte tank?

Welcome to 3reef! are you testing for iodine before you put in? I'd get a cheap UV sterilizer and use it when you have an outbreak. better than meds and chemicals. when I started my tank, the p.s. I had, had a uv built in and I never had an outbreak of ick. I don't add fish anymore. From what I've seen and heard, when you add new fish to your tank, chances are you're gonna get ick. when's the last time you did a good water change? filter change?

    wow!

This site and u guys are awsome, thanks for the help. My tank is 4 months old. I have t5 lighting and a marineland canister filter. I ordered the uv sterilizer as soon as I saw the ick, I got it yesterday but fedex broke it all up so its useless. I had no idea you could overdose on the iodide i just followed the directions on the bottle. Im dipping the tang in fresh water that has been bufed he is getting better I am also using ick attack to treat the tank. My cleaner shrimp will not clean the fish they suck.
