Hello everyone! I just joined today ;D. I should be posting a few things up in a bit as I am looking into buying some new stuff for my 46g bowfront saltwater tank. I have been doing saltwater tanks for about 3 years now.

Just to throw this out a quick question. I have had a horrible time with hair algae. It got so bad to a point where I pretty much started over. I removed all my liverock and put it in a bin for about 3 months now. I still keep getting some in my main tank though. I have talked to the LFS and I have tried phos. remover., water changes, Trash baged my tank for 3 days to get rid of ambient light, changing filters have good flow and water quality is fine, and I still have a little growing in my tank. Atm I only have 3 fish in the tank. any suggestions? Do I need to just drain my whole tank and start over?:-[

Welcome to 3Reef>>>>> I've always had nanos, so I solved mine with a sea hare..... But there has to be a cause... Thats what needs to be found.. My problems were only when cycling....

yeah this tank has been running for about 2 years..I think my main prob. was when I went away last summer and had a friend take care of it for me. I have about a 2 to 3 inch sand bed is that to deep? I was thinking about reducing it to like a inch or less.

How many sand sifters do you have???? like nassaruis's etc?? They would keep your sand bed stirred up IMO.. Are you getting any natural sunlight on your tank.. also maybe adding more flow.... Just throwing some thoughts out there.. A sea hare would mow that stuff down in no time....

I have about 10 maybe 12 sand nassaruis's. just replaced my old pumps with 2 koralia 2s and no natural sunlight is getting to it. would one sea hare do the trick in a 46 or would two be better?

What's your parameters? Calcium, Magnesium, dKH (alkalinity), Nitrates, Phosphates, and Salinity. What do you have for a cleanup crew? Hermits, Snails,etc... How much flow do you have (gph)? Powerheads and Pumps.

I'd do one... They are big eaters... But like stated above we still need to find the culprit....

Yeah I have hermits and snails. My parameters are 8.3 ph, 5 on nitrates, 0 phosphates and my salinity is a 1.023. and I would say at least 1600 gph
