Hey everyone. I've been registered for a little while but thought I'd finally make my formal introduction.

I just got started into this hobby a few months ago and am still learning a lot. My tank has been setup since the middle of September and seems to be running great so far.

This is a full tank shot that is slightly out of date. I'm still not happy with the aquascaping, I'm hoping to open it up a little bit more, however one of my first mistakes was choosing some rocks that are basically too large for the tank so I think I'm going to either break one or two of them up a little bit (carefully) or condemn them to the sump for a future tank (always thinking!).

    It's a 30gallon 36" long, 12" wide, 16" tall, with a 20gallon sump.
    Constructive criticism is always welcome!

    Welcome to 3reef! :)

Have you tried choosing a side and placing most of the rocks piled up on one or the other?

Welcome to 3reef. If you use a chisel you can just about break the rock where you want...sometimes.

Looks good! What size is it?
Breaking the rocks up is pretty easy, I have done it myself with some base. If you want them to break at an exact point, drill holes through it were you want it to come apart before taking a chisel and hammer to it.

Welcome to 3reef. Tank is looking good. Now the aquascaping battle begins. LOL It will take you a while to get it just perfect. But I like it. I agree with you on trying to open it up more but it is just one of those things of moving this there and that there. Have fun with it. And remember once again have FUN with it.

Thanks for the quick welcome everyone.

It's a 30gallon 36" long, 12" wide, 16" tall, with a 20gallon sump. Probably should get this in the OP.

I am planning right now for a light fish load, some LPS and some zoas (I can't resist the colors). I actually already have a hammer coral and some zoas in there, there are some pics in my album. Right now I have a neon goby in there and am planning on adding a purple firefish in the near future once I get my quarantine tank up and running properly.

Thanks for the tips on breaking rocks, I haven't quite decided how I'm going to go about it yet, I'll probably feel it out once I get them out of the tank. I haven't tried too much stacking, I did a little bit on the right hand side and once I get some smaller pieces I will definitely try some more, right now the pieces are just too big and unwieldy. The bulk of the rock is about 5 big pieces right now.
I am going to give it a shot sometime in the next week or so so I can feel better about starting to stock more without having to disturb all of the inhabitants. Thankfully the goby has taken up residence in a cave in a piece of rock I love and am not planning on breaking.

OK, now I'm headed home for more fun with the tank! :)
