I've already posted in the skimmer section but I thought I'd say hi. I currently have 3 tanks running, a 70g with my oscar, a 70g with Discus and my 53g with 26g sump reef. We will be moving shortly and my reef tank will be moving into a 55g sumpless. I'm awaiting the arrival of my HOB octopus skimmer (I've heard a lot of good things about these!). I also have 2 dogs, 2 kids and work as an Animal Health Technologist. I'm hoping the move goes well for all the fish (as well as the people/dogs) and I'm looking forward to re-doing my reef!

welcome to 3reef, good to get a discus keeper i think we lack a bit in the freshwater department(maybe the name puts freshies off)
good luck with the move, if the reef tank been setup for a while i would treat your sand like a biohazard.

This was something I have been concerned about. The tank has been up for a year. I will actually end up moving it twice, once into the new tank, and then into the new house. Any suggestions as to the best way to do this? Should I just wash all the sand? Or leave as is?

Yeah, could be a good time to rinse your sandbed, or just start with new sand.
