    Hi everyone :)
I just have a tiny ten gallon fresh water tank (for almost two years now), and a so so set up, but I love my fish. Currently keeping three zebras, one cardinal tetra (I know he needs buddies, but as you'll see I don't have room...yet), one tuxedo fancy guppy, and one 10/11 inch sailfin pleco. Obviously, I'm already overstocked.

When the pleco was young and only 2 in. I had more c.tetras and guppies (all male). When I started, I had little knowledge and no idea the sailfin was going to get so big or poop so much (I read in an aquarium mag. that they are actually know to be prolific poopers, ugh...wouldn't have bought him had I known, but I really enjoy having him). I'm struggling to maintain good water quality in my teeny tiny overstocked tank and would appreciate suggestions. I've been trying to get more and more educated and thankfully haven't lost anyone in at least a year. The pleco isn't making it easy, and he seems to have stopped growing, I suspect due to non-ideal water quality. He would definately like more room, but I can't afford an entirely new set up at the moment. :(

Anyone know a good bogwood source for my pleco? He sure does keep the walls clean (even if he more than mucks up the floor!). ;)

    welcome to 3 reef

    sorry to say
I think you will have to let the Pleco go back to the shop as it will struggle in a 10 gallon
I have recently seen some sail fins for sale that where easily a foot long

or you could consider a larger tank and allow him/ her to reach their potential

either would be an act of kindness on your part

Nope....they just function as a air bubbler. In a heavily stock tank with a large amount of Dissolved Organic Materials you might remove a little skimmate.

In fact, the higher you go in SG, the more skimmate you'll see. For instance a skimmer running at 1.026 will remove more than a skimmer running at 1.022

+1 on this, way to small of a tank. I would take him back and stay with a few small fish. Research on adult size and you will see which fish will outgrow the tank and which ones will not. Welcome!
