HELP 220, sumpless for a week or so without issues?
Morning guys and gals , Quick Question , last night my pump kept tripping the breaker, when i took the pump apart (Mag 12 ) the impeller had shredded itself and literally had to be forced out of the pump , i have ordered a new impeller from the local LFS but it will not be here until next tuesday, question #1 what do i need to do different while i have no return pump , #2 how long will this be safe for my corals ? The corals i have now are all softies, zoes mushrooms, a few leathers , and a large purple monti cap. also currently i have 3 modded maxijets (1 on each back corner and 1 in the middle pointed up breaking the surface, and 2 koralia 4's on the front corners) so i have flow , but will i have enough that the tank will be ok without a pump for a week. Tank size is 84x24x24

    Thanks for the help

I assume the main issue would be oxygenation and as long as your powerheads can achieve this you should be fine for that short time period.

My reef tank is just sumpless, nothing really harmful except that you cannot culture macroalgae and pods..

Add an air stone to the tank, and a power head to the sump. Make sure that both the sump and tank have heaters and you will be fine.

You should really look into having a used pump sitting around as a replacement. Last month I went through 2 pumps. Thank goodness I had 2 spares.

Good point - but in some cases this can be cost prohibited. My pump is jsut about $300, not easy to have 2 spares laying around. So it does help to undersand that air, heat and circulation is easily attainable while a new pump is ordered. But most noteworthy is of the sump in addition to the DT. So many people will focus on the DT and let the sump die off in these situations.

I actually do have 2 spares laying around and I think the subject of spare equipment is important and I am glad you mentioned it.
