I bought a new 65 gal tank about 3 weeks ago and its in the middle of cycling. Today I noticed a chip/crack on the corner of the tank about the size of a thumbnail. the crack is on the front panel of glassw. It appears to run diagonally from the front edge to the side. It tapers from 1/8 in the front and runs out to the rear side of the panel. I don't think the surface that the sealant is on has been affected, the tank is not leaking. The tank was OK this morning, I only noticed the crack tonight after returning from work. Therefore it must have happened during the day. I don't have any kids (at home), my wife works during the day, as do I and neither of us knocked the tank. The only conclusion I can draw is that there was a weakness in the glass that has now resulted in the crack. (I'm wondering how tempered glass could even crack liek this, I thought it would shatter) My concern is that the crack will worsen and or the tank will leak. I called my lfs where I bought the tank and they said they would replace it but I would have to empty the damaged tank. How I'm going to do that, I have no idea! (any suggestions woudl be greatfully accepted).
I guess my question is, has anyone had a similar problem and if so what are your experiences, should I replace or not?
Any suggestions or insight would be greatfully appreciated.

Just be super thankful that this happened during your cycle. Definitely replace it. Swapping everything over won't be hard.

Thanks guys, you just confirmed my thinking. Actually I was going to use a few large new rubbermade storage containers that can hold about 30 gallons. I tried that before with a fresh water tank and it didn't seem to bother the fish. I'm assuming that whatever process manufactures the storage containers can't be any different than the process than manufacters the buckets my lfs sells. Does this make sense?

If you can get a hold of those big plastic drums that would be good. My LFS has big blue ones they use to make water. I don't know if you know what I am referring to? I had to drain my tank once and had to get seven 20G tubs to drain my tank, it was not fun. At least you won't need that many with a 65G tank. I would scoop out at much sand as you can with a cup, then just siphon the rest out with vinyl tubing. If you have extra low flow powerheads, I would run them in the tubs to keep the water from becoming stagnant.

I've used a 55 gallon rubbermade trashcan before for this purpose, I had a 58g rupture and make a huge mess, moved all the LR & fish to the trash can moved what was left of the water over, then tossed in a pair of maxi-jet 1200's and a heater to keep it all stable then replaced the tank

just make sure you have a decent pump for returning the water back from whatever your storing it in to the tank when it's set back up and leveled or it'll seem like it's taking forever
