Can anybody recommend a protein skimmer for a 29 gallon 19 inch tall tank. id like to spend less than 300. I currently have 2 hob filters and a useless biocube protein skimmer. I was thinking i would change to one hob filter and a good skimmer. Every weekend i change either 5 gallons or ten gallons of water . Or is two hob filters and my water changes enough. thanks for the help

Coralife 65 is commonly recommended skimmer for a 29g. That's what I will be getting. $115 from FS Aquatics, now on sale for $93.

You could also try the CPR BalPak & I think Prizm is supposed to be a good brand as well.

I would go with a skimmer & a refugium, skip the HOB filters for a reef tank. Oh...is this a reef tank or a FOWLR?

it was a fowler but about two weeks ago i added 2 corals. thats why im trying to upgrade my filtration. Im about to checkout the skimmer u recommended. the price sounds good. I dont know about the refugium. Those sound complex and intimidating.

    +1 on Steve's recommendation.

Hmm...are you testing for phosphates, calcium & magnesium, in addition to the regular tests of pH, NO2, NO3 & ammonia?

A constant level the first three will help keep corals in great health.

You should like it. I ran one for a while and it performed very well.
