Help - Anenome Death? Cloudy Water

On Sunday I got a nice pink bubble-tip anenonme from my LFS. He was totally fine and seemed to pick a spot as of last night at 11PM. This morning I woke up and he was stuck to the bottom of one of my power heads, and my water is totally cloudy. He still has some inflation on some tips, but he is stuck on that powerhead. I shut that one down, and did a quick ammonia test and the level is fine.

What should I do? Rip him off that and remove? see if he moves off?

Wait a few hours and see if it moves off. If you notice that the anemone starts melting, you can assume that it's pretty well done for. Not sure why the water is cloudy but it might be because of the anemone.

 

ouch! that SUCKS man. I have had that happen to me several times, with a fish, anemone, nudibranch, even a jellyfish I had. Sorry to say it, but none of them recovered. Power heads are...well...powerful. As for the cloudiness, maybe it was defending itself from the "attack" and clouded up the water with something...that I'm not sure about. What you can check into is a filter sponge to attach to the bottom of your power head so something like this doesn't happen again. :-/ Also, you say that your tank is currently cycling? Its way too early to have an anemone anyways. If not for the power head, it probably would have died anyways. Sorry.

 

No - my profile is old.. it has since cycled and everything has been fine for some time now..

I am going to see if he moves off himself before the end of the day and see what happens..

 

Okay - update..
Water mostly is clear now - the anenome has picked himself up and moved up to a rock.. and about 1/2 of him is inflated and looks good.. the other 1/2 got kind of mangled/chewed up by the powerhead..
Should I leave him be to heal??

 

Good to hear that, I not sure i would be "that worried" my anemone (When he was new) found his way into my Rio 8HF a few times...one really bad...but i was suprised that they are very fast healers.

 

Yes, leave it be and keep an eye out for any melting of flesh. I would not recommend that you feed the anemone directly for a while as it takes a lot of energy for the anemone to consume and process solid foods and it needs that energy right now to heal.

 

Well thats good! Im amazed to hear he's pulling through. Like I said, look in to some filter pads you can fit onto your power head and this wont happen again. Glad to know your BTA is being hardy. I just got one a little more then a week ago and so far he's doing AWESOME! My most successful anemone yet (which is sad because it hasn't even been 2 weeks, if that gives you an idea on my previous luck, and lack of experience). Good luck and keep us posted!

 

He actually looks better every hour.. he left some debris of white stuff down on the bed.. but I left all alone and tested the water and all is good. The water is still just a tint of white cloud which I hope will clear.. and everything else seems happy..
He does have a nice big gash but he is stuck to one rock now flowing away.. so I hope he will be okay!
