Hi all-- hoping someone can help as I am in a cycle where I started my pump which pumps out the sump however my overflow box is not going and I can't get it started.

So what is happening is when I turn off the pump it is siphoning everything back through the pump and filling the sump.. Going to be a long night.. HELP!!

ok sometimes you overlook the obvious being new to the big tank word.. So turns out I just closed my valve that goes from the overflow to the tank and that did it... Duhhhh!!

Anyway-- no longer as urgent but does anyone know the trick to getting the sipon started in the overflow??

is there no retaining piece that holds the water back about half way up? you may need just to plug it up then do it.

To avoid this problem in the future, you need to get one of those consist syphon over flow boxes or get the tank drilled. Luna

I got it!! Thanks so much guys. I was clueless on how to get that thing started.. once I blocked the holes going down to the sump and did what sostoudt said it worked like a charm.. I'm still alittle nervous about a power outage and it over flowing. going to mess with that now.. I guess it's offically day one of the cycling process!!! Now we wait!!!!! :)

they sell HOB overflows that has a partition that holds the water pack half way up, so it keeps the siphon primed, that would protect you from just that case. i was worried when you told me you don't have a partition to keep the part of the box the u tube is in half way full
