Resolved Help! Brown Jelly Disease and Acro Crabs

Well..yes... sad news about the acro. It is dead. DOA.

It was supposed to arrive Saturday but didn't come until Monday afternoon. And to make matters worse it was in a dry bag. Awesome.

so what are you going to do now? get another I hope!?

 

I'm waiting for DD to put up another big tenuis. I hope the little guy can hang on!! So far he seems ok in his temporary home.

 

Did they refund your money because of the shipping and dead arrival?

Man that is bad luck. This is second time you had brown jelly. The last time was on a ric mushroom. First of all shut down pumps remove it slowly so it dont spread. Cut it well past the infected part and QT might have saved it.

 

KC, if you're still trying to get the acro crabs out of their old home, I've read that if you rinse the acro with seltzer water over a bowl with a little saltwater they will just drop right into the saltwater. Kind of hold the acro a few millimeters above the saltwater, and start slowly rinsing with the seltzer water.

There was no way it could be saved. The whole acro was just skeleton in a matter of hours. I really wish I could have.

This is the second time I've had it. The first time it appeared out of nowhere on a ric. And now this. Grrrr.....

At least there was a good amount of time between the two, or I'd be freaking out that it is spreading like wildfire.

Thanks for the tip. I chased them out with a toothpick. Worked just fine!

 

Awesome!! If this ever happens to me, I'll go with your toothpick trick. Definitely cheaper too! So it's a plus. Did it take you long to get them out? Were both of them fine?

 

Well, the one I bought, I haven't seen since I put it into the tank. So I dunno!

The original hitch hiker is doing fine. He isn't in a tenuis, but a small colony of something else...but he seems happy. I'm waiting on DD to get another BIG tenuis colony in. They are not that common.

Using the toothpick was pretty easy. I just held the acro over a little container of tank water and keep gently prodding him until he finally fell out of the acro and into the container. Then I dumped him into another acro. He seemed to enjoy the excitement!
