    Maybe a small sump

    HI,
    I had a 20 gal with a 40 gal total water column,
the way to do that is add a small sump, this allows you to hide skimmers and maybe a small DSB, anything that increases the total water, and improves water quality is a plus.
My 20 sumps also has small shoe box reforguim for plants and a light.

PS I also have added a fluidized bed this can improve water quality but you need to watch KH.

I used to have fish deaths, until I became very selective about who I buy from, I check every tank in the store if one is off or diseased the whole system maybe infected. Most petstores share sumps if one is sick many could be.
Another problem is many pet stores are very aggresive with meds,so when you take them home they get sick cause they had not completed the treatment time and will have flare ups almost overnight.
One petstore locally adds mallachite green to their tanks to prevent any chance of infection and that can be very hard on fish, its the number one reason salmon from china may be tainted with MG.

    Clown Fish keeps dying

I have had my tank for about 3 months now, in the process of being new to the hobby I have lost a yellow tang 3 clown fish and a dansel. 2 weeks ago I bough a clown fish it was happy swiming always hungry but only fed it once a day 2 days ago it started acting weird and staying at the bottom corner of the tank. This is the 3rdclown fish that has died on me, am I doing something wrong? I have a 16g bowl front. Can anyone help? All water tests came ok fine I have corals and they are all ok. I have bought the 3 different clown fish from 3 different stores. I dont know what else to do.

It seems way over stocked. I have a 55 gallon with a CUC and a greek goddess slug and two true percs and 1 royal gramme. I might add one more fish but really think that I have plenty. ( soft corals and the such later) The saltwater fish are very beautiful creatures and I am like you I would love to have two of each but consider the life and overall health of your fish in such a small area. I would get rid of alot of your stock. It is hard to do but better for the fish....

Well right now I just have a 6 line bressa and 4 corals thats it. At the time I only had the clown fish and the bressa. I dont think its over stocked if I only have 2 fish. Am I missing something else? I did a water change but it shoulent kill my fish anyways. I dont want to keep buying fish if they are going to die. ANyone has sugestions?

Well first of all, this is the second thread you have jumped in the middle of with your own question. Which is fine, honestly. But you may get better results if you actually start your own threads. This one is about 1 1/2 years old and people probably won't go to the last page to see why such an old thread got brought up again.

Second, you obviously need to do TONS more research!!!! A yellow tang in a 16 gallon tank? You really need to check out the requirements for these animals. Tangs shouldn't be in anything less than 75-100 gallon aquariums.

Third, how soon did you start adding fish? I don't want to jump to conclusions but based on the fact you had a tang in there, you probably started stocking up way too soon. How much live rock do you have? How often do you do water changes? Do you have testing supplies?

sorry I have tried starting my own thread but dont know how...like I said im new to this so any help will be appreciated.

I added fish my first day, common beginner mistake. I have about 25 pounds of live rock. The first fish I ever added was the tang, clown fish and damsel. Over 2 weeks the tang and clown died then I got another damsel and clown, the damsel died first then the clown. I then got rid of the original damsel and started of with fish again I got the bressa and clown. the clown now died.

I did a water change last night and will test the water tonight. last time I checked the water everything was good and it was a week ago. I bought my own testing supplies. I have a power head, filter coral light. I have bought a 70gallon center tank but I will be moving in August and dont want to set it up yet.

I have asked in different aquarium stores and they said the tang should be fine but it will outgrow my tank. I figured by the time it outgrown my tank I will have my 70gallan set up.

    Any Advice. ?

OK well to start your own thread, when you're at the homepage, scroll down and you'll see the "Forum Menu" on the left side. Click on the link which corresponds with your question, in this case it would be "Tropical Fish." From there all you do is click on "Forum Tools" (a drop down menu right above the "Last Post" column). Select "Post a New Thread" and you should be able to figure it out from there.

As for adding those 3 fish on your first day, while it happens, I would HARDLY call that a "common" mistake!!! People getting into this hobby generally do some research or ask someone who knows about it before just diving in headfirst without knowing the first thing about it. I think that goes for any hobby.

Regardless, you know now that was a colossal mistake and your wallet is lighter for it. Bet you won't be doing that again. Also, I suggest you find a different LFS. Anyone who would sell you a tang knowing full well that: A.) It's going in a day-old tank and B.) The tank is 16 gallons is only out for your money and not in it for your best interests, or the best interests of these animals, either.

As a matter of interest, how involved was this LFS in setting you up in the first place?

ok thank you for the advice, really appreciated I will go andpost a new thread soon.:)

I was warned about adding new fish the first day but still wanted to do it, and yes I have definetly learned my lesson. I just dont understand why Clown Fish keeps dying if the tank has been up and running for over 2 months now and everything reads fine.

I want to go and buy new fish but im afraid that they will die.

    Anything you suggest?
