As the title says, I need help deciding on a new mantis. My older N. Wennerae passed away yesterday, and I have a ready made mantis tank to fill up.

    The specs of the tank:
    -Nano Wave 9 Aquarium
    -Been setup almost a year
-about 6 lbs of rock with 2 PVC T's that I've arranged in a mantis-awesome environment. (I may buy larger PVC t's if I get a bigger mantis)
-Current inhabitant is a 3 stripe damsel. Named Orca. I'd prefer if he's kept alive (no spearers this time)

I'm interested in maybe another N. Wennerae, but I'm open to other species if there are some cool ones out there. I'd like something that's active or very active. They don't have to be interactive, we have Bo our G. Smithii for that

its a not so common type of tank. i think a spearer would be cool but since the fish must be kept alive then maybe an orange spot mantis. thats the one i was looking at until i decided otherwise.

It's an all-in-one style tank (like a biocube) that's 9 gallons or so, and was made by Aquamedic. They were only produced for a few months, I think Aquamedic went out of business? Or something like that caused them to stop being produced. I love the tank, I wish they made more. I only spent about $120 on the tank which is a bargain. $80 for the setup with fuge and skimmer and about $40 for a cooling fan setup from nanocustoms.com because the tank was hitting 82 degrees. Now it's at 78 solid, and has been for months. Anyways, I have a little mini-review of it with pictures in my thread in my signature if you wanna look.

Here's what it looks like now, complete with reaquascape. I plan on putting one more rock on top of that structure and then maybe some rubble to plug up holes and give the mantis something to work with.

And we're going to get a $5 urchin to help out with the coralline  That's my project to work on, scrape it off the glass and recruit an urchin to work on the back wall.

We're probably going to make a move on getting a mantis after Christmas is over so we can take down the decorations and move that tank in the corner of my mom's office by Bo's tank. The christmas tree is currently occupying that location and my mom won't let me move it...::)

Anyone have experience with a Gonodactylaceus falcatus? I think they're called the Tiger Mantis Shrimp. I just think they look really cool, but I don't know much about them.

And I'll look into an Orange Spotted. They get pretty big by the looks of it though.

Hmmm I had never heard of those before. They look really good, though. Plus, by the looks of it they're common on Florida Live rock, so it's possible I could find one at the LFS I was talking about. I may have to look into those.

I guess I could just go to the LFS after the tank gets moved and ask them to show me the mantis they have. I know they have some cool ones in their display tanks, but I doubt they'd sell me those guys. They like them too much. But I'd be happy to find a good one in the back room somewhere.

They get up to just shy of 5", Roy says 40l for them. So you could probably get away with a 9 gal, if you keep the params stable.

I have a mantis shrimp in my tank that came with a rock uninvited. They are wierd looking as all get up. If you live in South Florida and are good at catching them you can have mine.
