I'd be scared to let those nice corals sit in a tank with less than good lighting, skimmer, ect... If you have the means set up a 2nd tank even if its a frag tank. Or sell what you dont have room for but i wouldnt let them sit in a tank for too long that doesn't have the needed equip. If it were me tho, I'd find a way to cram every coral into my tank.. :p

    nice dilema to have IMO

    If it where me

I would do an inventry on the coral I had
do the same with the potential coral I could have

if I had room for 50 corals and in total there was a potential of 100 corals

    I would select best 50
I would then temporary house corals I was considering another set up for
I would then trade the balance for store credit

    keep the best
    trade the rest

you could try and plumb the rubbermaid into your current setup to try and keep it more stable but a cpl power heads and a decent light is all u really need again its just a container that you cant see through the sides... unless u get a clear one lol

HHHmmm....I've got an old 150w HM pendant. I also have a coupla rubbermaid trashcans. Thats possibly the most reasonable because it would be the easiest to plumb into current system.....could possibly use hose & a dedicated Rio pump?.....get it up & going tonight. I've also got some "used" live sand handy just to keep the corals stable & upright.

Whadda you think cb? Anyone else? This would be for at least 2 months until I can get a second tank up & running.

In a way yeah Steve. I'd frag some chunks for myself & give the rest away to some of the 3reefers on here before I let the LFS make more bucks off of everyone elses hard work & $$$.

These are VERY nice corals & wouldn't it be cool to turn the tables & watch LFS personnel buckle at the knees & drool when they saw pics of this stuff from some of you guys walking in with photos to make conversation?

if u are plumbing into your system i would skip the substrate in the rubber maid too messy and not worth it. treat it just like a frag tank.

Heck, my first frag tank was a rubber-maid 35 gallon stock tank and a 4 bulb T5's lighting fixture from Odd-a-sea!, worked fine for almost a year, only reason I changed was I got a use 30 breeder from a friend otherwise I'd still be using it.

Here is a picture of my award winning Ghetto frag tank, LOL, I really did win a "Best Ghetto" prize on another site.

First off no garbage cans, to tall to be efficient.

You don't have to use a stock tank (29 bucks), I also used a heavy duty rectangular storage tub (10 bucks), they come in black and are available at Menard's, Lowe's and Home Depot. just make sure its the heavy duty ones not the cheap plastic ones.

You can get away with clip on lights with the newer compact fluorescent bulbs in them but only for a short period, but long enough to get better lighting.

Go get some egg crate from the hardware store, a little 3/4 PVC and some tie straps and you can have it up and running in a few hours. I originally started using a canister filter with a foam filter and some live rock rubble but eventually went to a fuge/sump setup.

As far as sand, you can use it, allot of people seem to think including me that is helps keep the algae growth to a minimum in a frag tank but you don't have to.

As for plumbing it into you existing system I would not, I like to keep my frag system separate from my main system because I look at it this way, I have frags of everything in my main system in that tank. If something happens and my main system take a dump, I can restock the tank after I get everything up and running again, if its plumbed in with the main tank thats not going to happen. Just plan on doing water changes every week, at least 20% which is what I do. I have had the same frag tank going for 2 years now between the stock tank and glass tank phases.

Good luck what ever you do!
