Best thing to do would be to rent one of those rug shampoo'ers that they usually have at the front of most large chain grocery stores.

This is pretty much your only option. Not an identical situation, but my wife left the sunroof of my car open when it rained a few years ago. I have leather seats (thank god) but you can still smell the mold/mildew in the carpet to this day. I used every conceivable cleaner short of straight bleach. That smell is impossible to get rid of completley, I can only imagine it with a little bit of fish flavor added. :-X

You could call a carpet cleaning company. i would open the windows and place a strong fan or two at the damp/wet area and dry it up. It is going to be hard to get rid of the smell. Wish you the best with it.

;D I registered here just to share a tip. This is my first post.

Buy concentrated OdoBan. It will remove the smell, guaranteed.

    You can get it HERE.

I'm not a spammer. I actually intend to ask some questions today.

You need to cut out the carpet and pad from behind the tank. Hopefully your stand has an open back to allow you to do this. If that doesn't work then water got under your stand and you may have to tear down the stand to replace the carpet if you can't stand the smell.

I'm telling you - look into either buying or renting one of these Here

Most large chain food stores around me rent these out near customer service.

I have used these on a few spills.. Some I had to run the machine on it twice - but now you wouldn't know there was a spill. It also sucks the water out of the rug so if you to the spill quick enough it makes for a very easy clean up.
