How big is the tank. If it is large one emerald won't do much and there is more you can do. If it is small you can add a couple more emeralds and they should have an impact.

I've never had good success rates with emerald craps. Longest I've kept one alive is 7 months - i'd assume he ran out of food or something. My chocolate chip star has never touched a coral or even another invert before. He's content with detritus and extra food as he's been with me for over a year now.

I bought an emarald to eat green bubble algae on a really nice piece of LR. He never touched it. The green bubble algae kept spreading and I eventually had to pull out the rock. The emerald crab eventually died. I haven't seen it for about 6 months.

I have freakin bubble algae on one rock. I took it out the other day and scrubbed them off with a toothbrush in saltwater from a water change. I hope I don't have to toss it, as I have 3 mushrooms growing on it. I don't want an emerald crab, I've heard bad things about them - dude at the LFS had one given back to him after it mistook his home for a buffet and munched on an expensive fish.
